Mark Young
Mark Young is the Line Maintenance Supervisor for Black Hills Power (BHP) as their Utility Arborist in charge of right-of-way vegetation management. He holds a BS in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia. Mark was honorably discharged from the US Army in April of 1980. He served 8 years in Military Intelligence leaving the Army as a Staff Sergeant (E-6).
Mark has been an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist since 2003. He has 9 years experience in the electric utility industry, 8 of those years doing right-of-way vegetation management. Mark has a total of 28 years professional experience and training in public relations, management, and scientific analysis. He has a total of 12 years experience providing analytic services in natural resources, innovative technology, and electric utility right-of-way management.
Prior to BHP, Mark worked as a contractor for Environmental Consultants Inc. (ECI) completing two-years with Sequatchie Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) as their right-of-way manager, and a two-year contract as a consultant to Florida Power & Light (FPL) working with their utility designers to plan new distribution power line projects.
Mark believes in innovative utility vegetation management solutions. These solutions follow the guiding principles of reliability and cost-effectiveness, while recognizing a responsibility to the environment.
